D2. Beijing
The flight arrives at Beijing, we are met by our tour guide and to be transferred to our Luxury Hotel.
D3. Beijing/Urumqi (AB, L, SD)
We board a 4-hour flight to Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. After arrival, we visit a local market – Bazaar. In the evening, we have a better appreciation for Uighur culture as we enjoy a delicious local roast lamb dinner.
D4. Urumqi (AB, L, D)
We take a cruise on Lake of Heaven, which elevates of 6400 ft above the sea level. It is a beautiful highland lake, flanked by rugged pines and cypresses, and with clear waters that reflect the surrounding mountains.
D5. Urumqi/Turpan (AB, L, D)
Passing by Flaming Mountain, We take motor coach to Turpan, a Uighur town set in a large oasis surrounded by desert and mountains. Stop at the Gaochang Ruins, once an important garrison town on the Silk Road. Attend a local dance show
D6. Turpan /Dunhuang (AB, L, D)
Turpan is famous for its sweet grapes and other fruits. The visit to the Grape Valley and the homes of Uighur farmers is an extraordinary experience. We take over night soft sleeper train to Dunhuang after dinner.
D7. Dunhuang (L, D)
Arrive in Dunhuang in the morning. Dunhuang was a major point of interchange between China and the outside world during Han and Tang dynasties, also a stopping-off post for both incoming and outgoing trading caravans. Visit the Dunhuang Museum and the Singing Hills, where you will experience a short camel-riding along the Echoing-Sand Dune to reach the Crescent Lake. Today’s breakfast is on your side.
D8. Dunhuang (AB, L, D)
Visit the Mogao Caves – the ‘World Art Treasure House'. It is the world's most important sites of ancient Buddhist culture. The grottoes, also known as Caves of the Thousand Buddha, preserve nearly a thousand years of Buddhist cave-temple architecture, clay sculpture, mural paintings, and manuscripts, dating from the 5th to the 14th centuries. Enjoy a Silk Road Singing and Dancing Show after dinner.
D9. Dunhuang/Jiayuguan Pass/Lanzhou (AB, L, D)
We drive to Jiayuguan Pass (4 hours), which was considered both the western tip of the Great Wall and the western boundary of the empire. Visit the Jiayuguan Fort and the overhanging Great Wall. We take overnight soft sleeper train to Lanzhou.
D10. Lanzhou/Xian (L, D)
Arrive in Lanzhou in the morning, we take a half day tour to Bingling Grottoes, also know as the Bingling Temple, which is one of China's best grottoes. With the first cave built in 420 AD, Bingling Grottoes are next to those in Dunhuang and the Maiji Mountain in magnitude and the value of their historical relics. Among the survivals are 183 grotto niches displaying 679 stone and 82 clay figures, in addition to more than 900 square meters of murals. We take a late afternoon short flight to the starting point of the historic Silk Road - Xian. Today’s breakfast is on your side.
D11. Xian (AB, L, SD)
Xian was the former capital of China and enjoys a 5000 year old history. In 221 BC, Qin Shi Huang unified China and became its first emperor. When he died, an entire Terra Cotta Army was constructed and buried with him. It was uncovered serendipitously in 1974 by farmers, and then became one of the century's great archeological discoveries. For dinner, we enjoy an Imperial Dumpling Banquet, followed with the world famous Tang Dynasty Stage Show.
D12. Xian/Beijing (AB, L)
We drive by the Ancient City Wall, and stop to visit the Bell Tower. Finish up our tour in Xian with a visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Depart Xian for Beijing by air, upon arrival, explore the city on your own. Today's dinner is on your side.
D13. Beijing/USA (AB)
We are transferred to the airport for our flight back to the States, or participate our Beijing city package or other optional Post-Trip Extensions.
