Is This Trip Right for You?

This is an active trip. Our tour group covers a lot of ground each day, and we spend two to three hours on our feet during tours. The pace is fast. We have many early mornings and long bus rides necessary to cover the territory. Some of our tours require walking over uneven surfaces or up and down steep slopes or steps. Day 1 Depart for Guangzhou, China
Depart for Guangzhou, China. Take a flight to Guangzhou, China, and start your 2024 trip to beautiful China!

Day 2 Arrive in Guangzhou, China
Upon arrival in Guangzhou, our tour representative will meet you outside the baggage claim exit and guide you to the comforts of our transfer vehicle that will bring you to your hotel for check-in, to rest and to refresh. And you will have to take care of your own meals.

Day 3 Guangzhou
Experience the captivating City Tour of Guangzhou, the vibrant capital city nestled in Guangdong Province, Southeast China. Renowned as a significant port on the South China Sea, Guangzhou stands as China's pivotal southern gateway to the global arena. It serves as a bustling hub city for the ambitious Belt and Road Initiative. The grand opening ceremony and welcoming dinner of the 2024 Beautiful China Tour will be set to take place in the evening.

Day 4 Guangzhou-Quanzhou
Today we will take a domestic flight from Guangzhou to Quanzhou. In the afternoon, upon arrival at the West Street Fun Camp, we will immerse in the vibrant atmosphere of Quanzhou City, where we'll witness captivating fireworks and explore the charming red brick ancient houses, showcasing the distinctive characteristics of southern Fujian. (Dinner at West Street is not included and is at your own expense.)

We will enjoy the family activities to experience the  Intangible Cultural Heritage of Lantern Making including discovering the rich history of Quanzhou's national intangible cultural heritage: lantern making and learning about the application process for this prestigious cultural recognition. Then parents and children alike can partake in the hands-on experience of crafting lanterns together, fostering a deeper appreciation for this traditional art form.


In the evening,  we will experience the Lantern Night Tour at West Street!

Day 5 Quanzhou
Visit the Quangang Fuchuan Base to explore the Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum and Fuchuan Handicraft Workshop. Delve into the intricacies of Fuchuan's structure, the everyday tools of fishermen, and gain insight into their maritime way of life. Witness the craftsmanship firsthand at the workshop, where old masters create lucky boats, and learn about the intricate process behind their construction.Research Activity: Investigate Watertight Compartment Technology and Construct a Model of an Intangible Cultural Heritage Ship.

In the afternoon, we will experience firsthand the salt field environment and engage directly with the salt-making process alongside a seasoned salt-making master. Learn fundamental salt production techniques, familiarize ourselves with salt-making tools, and delve into the intricacies of the salt-making process, including unique Fujian salt production methods used in mountainside salt fields.

Day 6 Quanzhou
Today we will assemble and head for Cangxi Fishing Village, a vibrant southern Fujian enclave where industrious fisher girls adorn themselves in traditional attire, adding charm to the coastal landscape. Serving as a crucial port along the Quanzhou Maritime Silk Road, this village witnessed the departure of merchant ships laden with silk and porcelain. Upon their return, crews utilized oyster shells as ballast, later repurposing them to build resilient Oyster Shell Houses in Xianpu. These structures, praised for their durability and insulation, stand as a testament to coastal ingenuity. We will get a chance to Indulge in the traditional women's clothing and headwear of Changpu. Girls can partake in this experience, while boys are also welcome if they're interested. (At your own expense.)

In the afternoon, we will visit the State-owned Anxi Tea Factory and immerse yourself in the art of tea mountain picking and ancient tea making. Research Activity: Study of Tea Mountain Picking and Ancient Tea Making.

Then we will return to Quanzhou for rest.

Day 7 Quanzhou Dehua-Zhangzhou Earth building
Today we will continue our journey by discovering the legacy of the Maritime Silk Road's "China White" ceramics at the Shunmei Haisi Ceramics History Museum and the Shunmei Ceramics Cultural Life Museum and exploring the Dehua white porcelain production process with a visit to the factory, where you'll have the opportunity to learn pottery making techniques and practice drawing and crafting pottery firsthand.

In the afternoon, we will experience Hakka folk customs with these engaging activities below:

Hakka Food Preparation: Join the host to make glutinous rice cakes, engaging in repetitive actions like turning, applying water, and beating the mixture to completion.

Special Long Table Dinner: Indulge in a long table banquet, symbolizing prosperity and hospitality. Gather around a table nearly ten meters long, where friends share delicious food, fostering a sense of happiness and contentment.

Bonfire Party: Join the traditional bonfire celebration, where indoor festivities take on a carnival-like atmosphere, marked by joyous revelry.
Overnight: Longchang Building

Day 8 Zhangzhou-Xiamen
After breakfast, we will explore the enchanting Fujian Tulou Yunshuiyao Tourist District, a cluster of ancient buildings showcasing the remarkable wisdom of ancient Chinese craftsmen. Nestled within Yunshuiyao Ancient Town, this vibrant village exudes strength and prosperity. Wander through its winding ancient roads, shaded by century-old banyan trees, and marvel at the mystical earth buildings set amidst pristine mountains and flowing waters.

In the afternoon, we will visit the Tulou Complex at Hekeng Village.Explore the history and construction methods of earth buildings through visual aids, understanding the mechanical structure, foundation balance mechanics, and rammed earth wall production. Learn how ancient builders maximized natural resources to create magnificent structures, carefully selecting and preparing soil for construction. Engage in hands-on activities to create miniature earth buildings, gaining insight into the science and craftsmanship behind rammed earth construction.

Research tasks include: Listening to on-site explanations of earth building architectural features and techniques by expert inheritors. Participating in micro-earth building construction and analyzing rammed earth wall production.

Day 9 Gulangyu Island
After breakfast, we will continue our journey by visiting the world well known Gulangyu Island. Exploring Gulangyu Scenic Area, boasting a blend of Chinese and foreign architectural styles. Visit landmarks like the Consulate Building Complex of All Nations and experience the rich Minnan culture at Haitiangou villa. Enjoy performances of Nanyin music and Palm Puppetry, immersing yourself in the island's cultural heritage.
Family Activity: Explore Gulangyu Island freely with a map and stamped book, allowing children to discover the island's attractions at their own pace.

Day 10 Xiamen
After breakfast,  embark on a journey through the "hard currency" of the Maritime Silk Road in Hong Kong with an Incense Culture Experience. Visit the Incense Culture School to delve into the cultural roots of incense inheritance. Witness the ancient seal incense ritual, appreciate the spiritual wisdom of Chinese ancestors, and engage in hands-on activities such as hand-made incense and incense making, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of this ancient tradition.

Practical Activities includes: Firstly, Hand-purification and Incense Burning. Immerse yourself in the serene and deliberate pace of life through a hand-purification and incense burning ceremony, rediscovering the beauty of ritual. Secondly, Chinese Incense Rituals. Experience the ancient Chinese Incense Rituals, meticulously restored from historical documents, embodying traditional Chinese etiquette and incense practices, reflecting the significance of ritual in Han Dynasty events. Thirdly, Ancient Seal Incense.Explore the art of Ancient Seal Incense, utilizing specially crafted molds to imprint incense powder into fixed patterns or shapes, a traditional practice in Buddhist halls and study rooms, igniting and burning patterns in sequence. Lastly, Bracelets DIY. Dive into the world of agarwood with DIY Incense Bracelets, a beloved product among perfume enthusiasts. Day 11 Xiamen
After breakfast, we will embark on a Sea Tour around Xiaodeng Island, where we'll explore historical villages and unravel battlefield secrets. Admire the architectural beauty of ancient residential complexes typical of southern Fujian. Seek out the 600-year-old Ba Fujian Iron Tree King, stroll along Wangjin Road past a majestic banyan tree, and listen to battlefield tales beneath its branches, learning about the island's rich history. And equip yourself and step into the shoes of a fisherman, experiencing the thrill of the sea. Engage in activities such as picking up conches, catching crabs, and leaping fish, with surprises awaiting at every turn. Your guide can process your harvest on-site or release it, allowing you to savor the delicious fruits of your labor
.(Note:The sea-catching experience is scheduled according to tide times, either early or late. The location for sea-catching is an untouched ecological island with minimal commercial development, resulting in relatively basic reception conditions.)

In the afternoon, we will explore the Hulishan Fort, located near Xiamen University, just a 15-minute drive away. A testament to China's Westernization Movement, this fort is historically referred to as the "Gateway to Fujian and the Key to Tiannan." It serves as a significant site for studying China's coastal defense military history and the Westernization Movement, showcasing precious relics and ordnance construction technology.

Day 12 Xiamen
After breakfast, we will continue our tour by visiting Jimei  School Village,
 a testament to the vision of the renowned patriotic overseas Chinese, Tan Kah Kee. Built with his significant investment, it seamlessly integrates ancient and modern Chinese and foreign architecture. Visit the Tan Kah Kee Memorial Hall to learn about his patriotic deeds and be inspired by his spirit of "doing business in Southeast Asia and loving his hometown," "investing in education with perseverance," and "sincerely patriotic and dedicated to his country." Listen to short stories in Ao Garden to gain further insight into Mr. Tan Kah Kee's lofty spirit.Studay activities include reciting Classic Quotations and Honoring Overseas Chinese Role Models. Encourage students to recite classic quotations and pay tribute to overseas Chinese role models, fostering the transmission of the "Kah Kee Spirit." Through this activity, cultivate students' qualities of sincerity and dedication, instilling in them the values exemplified by these esteemed individuals.

In the afternoon, we will experience the dragon boat class at dragon boat pond, the schedule as below:

Day 13 Xiamen
After breakfast, we will embark on a Sailing Experience Tour at the Wuyuanwan Sailing Center. Learn about the structure and operation of a sailboat, as well as the elements affecting its operation conditions. Challenge yourself to try sailing under the guidance of a captain. In the afternoon, we will Head to Laoyuan Folk Customs Park (a 20-minute drive),portraying the life of southern Fujian fishermen from a century ago along the Maritime Silk Road. Each scene interconnects, showcasing regional fishing village, folk, Mazu, Nanyang, and ancestral cultures. Witness "The Battle of the Sea," narrating southern Fujian's conquest of Southeast Asia, integrating local characteristics, folk customs, national music, and historical tales. Enjoy the ongoing live performance "Southern Fujian Legend Show" (14:30-15:30), divided into six acts: Heavenly Heron Island, Island City Battle, Nanyang Adventure, Fishing Village People, Descendants of the Dragon, and Blessings of China. This performance showcases southern Fujian culture, combining local characteristics with folk customs, ethnic traditions, national music, and humanistic history, using advanced display techniques and international performing arts. The world's first super-large indoor ring-shaped stage, with a 360° rotating giant wheel auditorium, offers a cutting-edge three-dimensional performance incorporating water, land, and air elements, setting a new standard in entertainment.
